Everything he loved was either lost or became a crystalline husk he found himself in control of, with his lost wife deciding to help the player put the man out of his misery. He turned to the player's Ancestor for help, but in that "help" found only ruin. The Miller was a simple man who wanted to save his failing harvest.
He's still attempting what he tried to do in life, working to protect his family and salvage his harvest.
The Miller has been twisted by this and now likely sees culling the noninfected living as some form of tending his fields. The takeover of The Sleeper and The Thing From The Stars means that the extraterrestrial nature has spread to every soul affected in the region. This seems to be just fine with The Ancestor, as he says he regrets not having lived to see the Mill get smashed to pieces by whatever had been summoned.Įven in his now unearthly form, this boss still attempts to do what he thinks is his work. The other, The Sleeper, is the comet itself, bringing its horror to The Miller's home. Two extraterrestrial beings now inhabit the game world, one of which is a wandering abomination called The Thing From The Stars. His intent in having the odd stones built at the Mill seemingly was to call something down from space, which was a success. In-game narration from The Ancestor also reveals how he seems to revel in the destruction he's brought to the man who only wanted his help.
It's clear that neither The Miller nor his land really survived the comet. This damage is especially evident on The Miller himself, who stands much taller than a normal man and seems to be held together via some eldritch energy, with several pieces of him and his scythe simply floating in place or acting as though they're whole, even if the player can clearly tell otherwise. The area has been wrecked, and every living thing in the area, from the farmhands to plow horses, has become husks with crystal-like growths and parts of their skeletons showing. When players travel to the Farmstead, it is covered in eerie, glowing crystals giving off a blue light.
